The Puyallup Tribe of Indians will host a free COVID-19 testing and flu shot clinic on Friday, Nov. 20.
The walk-up clinic will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Administration Building parking lot, 3009 East Portland Ave., Tacoma. It is open to everyone. Tribal Members, tribal government employees and community members are encouraged to participate.
Puyallup Tribal Medical Director Dr. Alan Shelton said a recent study in Netherlands indicates that people who get flu shots have a lower risk of getting COVID-19.
“There’s something about getting the flu shot that ramps up the immune response,” Shelton said. “So they’ve actually shown that getting a flu shot actually reduces the risk of getting COVID-19.”
Why test for COVID-19?
Native Americans and people of color are part of the high-risk community for COVID-19. If you are experiencing symptoms such as fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, or loss of taste or smell, you should get tested for COVID-19.

The tests will involve a nasal swab. Results will be available between 24 and 48 hours for positive cases, and 48 and 72 hours for negative cases.
