House of Respect Chef Roman Aguillon eagerly anticipates the Elders Luncheon every month.

Aguillon possesses a background in fine dining and is determined to provide Elders of the Puyallup Tribe with the absolute best experience possible.

“It is my opportunity to showcase my full capacity level of what I am used to doing. The cooking we do is very low-calorie, low-sugar and is very healthy,” Aguillon said with pride. “I have a lot of family members who are part of the Puyallup Tribe. I like to do my part in providing good, healthy food for everybody involved.”

House of Respect staff cooked up Christmas themed seafood cakes with orange sauce, baked ham with honey mustard glaze and provided pumpkin pie for dessert at the monthly Elders Luncheon on Dec. 20. A multitude of attendees and staff members exuded their holiday spirit, wearing colorful outfits reflecting the spirit of the holiday season. The entertainment for the one-hour feast was the Silver Bells Carolers, who are based out of the Seattle area.

Puyallup Tribal Member Peggy McCloud offered an emotional prayer and blessing before lunch was served by House of Respect staff members.

“It is so wonderful to be here with our Elders because they opened the way for us. We have to celebrate family, and we have to celebrate together during this wonderful time, the winter solstice. It is a blessing,” McCloud said.

The festive holiday luncheon concluded with Puyallup Tribal Council Chairman Bill Sterud and Tribal Council Members Annette Bryan, Monica Miller, Anna Bean and Fred Dillon doling out cash prizes, wrapped gifts, gift bags and gift baskets to a bevy of attendees during the raffle as they finished up their dessert, which was a tasty slice of pumpkin pie.
