The smell of freshly-cut pineapple and floral arrangements filled the halls of the House of Respect on Aug. 23 during the monthly Elders Luncheon.
August’s theme was centered around Hawaii, and featured a hula dance performance by Kumu Hula Mokihana Melendez and her students.
Led by their Kumu (teacher), the students sang and danced for the attending Elders before bringing them up to participate and learn the moves, as well.
Elders were also treated to a multi-course meal courtesy of the House of Respect staff as they enjoyed the live performance and good company.
The luncheon concluded with a raffle hosted by Tribal Council Chairman Bill Sterud accompanied by Vice Chairwoman Sylvia Miller and Council Members Monica Miller and Fred Dillon.
Lucky winners were able to take home a plethora of gifts, such as painted buffalo skulls, goodie bags and cash prizes.
