At a time when the need to keep up social distancing is more important than ever, Dr. Alan Shelton, clinical director of the Puyallup Tribal Health Authority, sends this message:
To my Puyallup Tribal community… I trust you all are hanging in there with stay-at-home orders.
We are finding at this point that our numbers are not as bad as they could’ve been. We now have five positive cases of COVID-19. All of them are stable and being treated in the best way possible.
I want to encourage everyone to stay at home the best they can. If you develop a fever and cough illness with shortness of breath, please call us at the Puyallup Tribal Health Authority for possible testing and treatment. The telephone number is 253-593-0232. Please also try to stay apart from others. This will limit the spread of the illness.
At the clinic this week, we started masking all of the staff and all of the patients all of the time. By the end of the week there were new recommendations from the CDC that if you leave your home, please wear a mask. The idea is again to try to limit the spread of the disease.
I have been impressed with the effectiveness of our social distancing measures. Compared with other communities our numbers are so far fortunately low. Thank you for doing the best you can to follow the guidelines.
I wish you all the best!
