Sustainability Program

Mission

The mission of this program is for tribal community to become aware of the Tribe’s world view, and traditional tools that work toward restoring Earth balance. And, where appropriate, educate other organizations and communities about the Tribe’s world view and appropriate traditional knowledge, which will assist in restoring a safe and stable climate. Additionally we work to ensure that all tribally sponsored community functions continue to honor our relationship and responsibility to our Mother Earth.

Waste Reduction Information

Please be sure to properly sort garbage, recycling, and compost using the guides below. Remember, landfill is a finite resource. Not only do we reduce amount of material that ends up in landfill by properly sorting waste, we also reduce CO2 and Methane emissions when we utilize recycling and composting.

More About Composting

You may have noticed the green compost bins throughout the Administration building. These green bins are to be used to dispose of food waste, plant debris, approved compostable packaging, and even food soiled paper. We have 2 per/floor at the following locations:

  • 1st floor – main elevators and kitchenette
  • 2nd floor – main elevator and kitchenette
  • 3rd floor – main elevator and break room
  • 4th floor- main elevator and kitchenette

Please be mindful to sort your waste and dispose of it properly by sorting compost only waste into the green container. Any compost collection bin that is too contaminated with trash and even recyclables will end up in landfill.

The goal of recycling and composting is to divert waste from landfill (itself is a finite resource), to prevent pollution, save energy, and conserve natural resources. Please refer to educational resources below for proper disposal guides, videos, alternative recycling options.
