The Puyallup Tribe of Indians have lived along the shores of the Puget Sound in Washington State for thousands of years.

The people of the Puyallup Tribe have been known for “generous and welcoming behavior to all people who enter our lands.” Living off the waters of the Puyallup River fed by Mount Rainier, the Puyallup People fished, hunted, and traveled by these waters. Using the Western red cedar to make many things like homes, utensils, and canoes.

As one of the most urban tribes in the United States, the Puyallup Tribe is committed to being a good neighbor. It is consistently one of the top 10 employers in Pierce County, it fights to protect the environment, its economic development projects create jobs, and it donates millions of dollars each year to charitable organizations through its Charity Trust Board and through donations made directly by the Puyallup Tribal Council.

When it comes to Tribal natural resources, the importance of fish can’t be understated. Whether it’s performing stream surveys, habitat restoration and development, artificial production and more, the Fisheries Department oversees it all to ensure a healthy environment for a population of growing fish.
