Motown music got Elders moving and singing along during the Intertribal Luncheon on Oct. 17 held at the Emerald Queen Casino Event Center.

While the Tribe holds luncheons each month at the House of Respect for Puyallup Elders, the annual Intertribal Luncheon is a chance for Elders from all Tribes to come and be celebrated.

Elders and their families from numerous Tribes gathered to share food, visit with lifelong friends and take part in an exciting gift raffle. Prizes included items such as blankets, paintings, toys and holiday themed novelties alongside big ticket items like a smoker and an electric utility scooter. A 360-degree photo booth was also set up to capture smiles and show off the Elders’ stunning stroll-themed outfits.

Live Motown music was performed by The Jewel Tones, who invited Elders to come up and boogie down in front of the stage. A multi-course meal and table refreshments were also served throughout the event.

Tribal Council Chairman Bill Sterud extended his gratitude to the attendees for making the trip, alongside Vice Chairwoman Sylvia Miller and attending Council Members Annette Bryan, James Rideout, Anna Bean, Monica Miller and Fred Dillon.

“You honor us with your presence. … Thank you for being here. It is important to our Tribe, it is important to your Tribes. Honored Elders, here we are, we’re all together,” Sterud said.
