Cedar Wellness Center available to all who need its services, Native and non-Native alike
The Puyallup Tribe opened a new 12,000-square-foot opioid treatment clinic, Cedar Wellness Center, on May 7.
The clinic is located at 503 E. 26th St., close to the Tacoma Dome. It’s open to all who need it, whether Native or non-Native, and accepts Medicare and Medicaid. Patients can simply walk into the clinic to begin their recovery journeys.
More than 200 people celebrated the blessing of the facility on a sunny May 3, where Puyallup Tribal Councilmembers gave remarks on the significance of the center. Heritage Division Manager Connie McCloud delivered the blessing.
Establishing the clinic is part of the Tribe’s goal of saving lives and being part of the solution to the problem of opioid addiction.
“This is a nationwide issue that has struck our community at an alarming rate, affecting the quality of life of so many people we care for and love” said the Puyallup Tribal Council in a press release. “We will continue to support those battling addiction on their journey to recovery.”
The center is an outpatient facility and features individualized case management. It will treat patients using methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone. It will primarily treat patients who suffer from opioid addiction, including addiction to fentanyl. But it will also help patients with all substance addictions, including methamphetamine, alcohol, benzodiazepine, and more.
Cedar Wellness Center employs a full medical staff and will offer mental health care and limited primary care/urgent care for patients who are enrolled in its substance use disorder program. These areas of treatment help address the health of the whole patient and improve outcomes for people with substance use disorder.
The two-story center was designed to be personal, welcoming and respectful of each patient. Treatment rooms have touches meant to make them more like home than a clinic.
“Everyone’s journey is individual to that person, and this clinic will help them on the way,” Tribal Council said.
Cedar Wellness Center will be able to accept, evaluate, and treat patients seven days a week, with no appointments, detox, or wait times necessary.
